August 2021 ALABC E-Newsletter

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to our August 2021 Newsletter.

At ALABC we are committed to regularly engaging with our members and stakeholders. We strongly believe their views make us better and we welcome their feedback.

Within the range of strategy and governance topics that we discuss in our conferences/webinars, we give great importance to environment, social and governance matters (ESG) in Latin America.

Recent research shows that attracting new investments in key sustainability sectors could help to strengthen the pace of Latin America’s economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. ALABC plays an important role in contributing to the discussion in addressing global challenges such as climate change, the need for infrastructure development, and social, and economic equality.

In this issue, we are pleased to include two video recordings of experts discussing the state of ESG in Latin America, and ways in which the region can take better advantage of the trend and how this represents an opportunity for Australian businesses and investors.

On the 26th August 2021, ALABC celebrated our Perth Annual Dinner at the Pan Pacific Hotel, featuring an impressive line-up of panel speakers for a discussion on the challenges and collaboration opportunities that Lithium and Electromobility offers between Australia and Latin America. We would like to offer our greatest appreciation to the Hon. Bill Johnston MLA, Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Energy and Corrective Services for providing the keynote address for the event. We would also like to congratulate Edgar Basto, President Minerals Australia BHP, for accepting the award recognising Edgar's achievements as an outstanding Latin American business leader.

If you were unable to travel to Perth due to border closures, and you missed the live stream of the panel discussion and key note address, you can catch up by watching the live stream recording in the link below.

Please also feel free to share the event photos from the night via social media to your colleagues and friends.

Finally, it is my pleasure to announce that we have finished the pre-selection process of the companies that submitted applications to the first round of the ALABC soft-landing program. We received a total of 29 applications and pre-selected 6 representing the METS, FinTech and AgTech industries. Now we are in the final stages of the selection process and the official announcement will be made on the 16th of September.

The ALABC Annual Report for 2021 is also available to read and download.
