Letter from the Chief Executive Officer
Dear Members, friends and associates of ALABC,
As we look towards the end of the year I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect briefly on our organisation and the amazing businesses that make up our ALABC community.
In the last twelve months the global geopolitical landscape has changed vastly, traditional trade and investment alliances reset, supply chains disrupted, trade routes and associated costs a mess. As a result, the Australian government has recognised the need to broaden our trade and investment horizons and has been promoting market diversity. The ALABC business community is already ahead of this trend, recognising Latin America as a naturally aligned market. With rich natural and mineral resources, abundant lands that support agriculture, and creative, innovative and entrepreneurial people in common we have all the ingredients to build business success.
We congratulate the Australian and Chilean governments for announcing Strategic Partnership status and ALABC will be advocating for other such partnerships. This is diversification of markets in action.
We have lots on between now and the end of the year with webinars, our IMARC activities, luncheons and Christmas celebrations. Keep a look out for our expression of interest to participate in a delegation to Latin America in the second quarter of 2027. We are excited to bring this offering to our members!
If you are a new member, welcome, if you are an existing member we value you and your membership.
Kim Prior

Melbourne Annual Dinner & Business Excellence Awards 2026 - 23 September
ALABC hosted its Melbourne Annual Dinner and Business Excellence Awards 2026 at the RACV City Club on the 23 September. What a glittering affair!
This year we had a record number of award applicants across a diverse range of industries and countries. We would like to acknowledge the amazing work of all the businesses who applied, and congratulate everyone who participated. 2026 saw a new Social Enterprise category and the calibre of companies blew the judging committee away. This new addition to the awards will now become a fixture into the future.
Special congratulations to our award winners:
- Category (A) - Don Kyatt Group
- Category (B) - AusIMM
- Category (C) - Calima Workforce Solutions
- Category (D) Social Enterprise - Warriors Team Brisbane
This year’s speaker line up was superb, presenting on the theme of “Celebrating Excellence”.
Coming up to the AFL Grand Final provided us with the opportunity to see how business and sport are closely aligned and natural partners. H.E. Vitaliano Gallardo, Ambassador of Peru, Alberto Chico Garcia (LATAM Airlines) and Julian Lyngcoln (Global Victoria) provided us with insights on the importance of connections - sporting, transport links and business, whilst our panellists, including AFL superstar Joshua Kennedy, H.E. Diego Felipe Cadena, Ambassador of Colombia, and Deputy Chair Trevor Woolfe introduced up to AFL Colombia.
Thank you to the 2026 Champion Sponsor LATAM Airlines, Global Victoria and our corporate table partners for their support.

Brisbane Annual Dinner 2026, 8 September
Our Brisbane Annual Dinner at Customs House was a sell out! Animated conversation, the room filled with the perfume of Ecuadorian roses and colourful cowboys.
The day kicked off with ALABC CEO Kim Prior and directors Trevor Woolfe, Lina Gillespie and Kurt Benavides attending a welcome breakfast for the diplomatic community held at the University of Queensland before UQ’s Latin American Colloquium. Now in its 19th year, the colloquium’s theme this year was Shared Futures, Shared Solutions: Australia-Latin America Cooperation in an Era of Global Volatility.
H.E. Máximo Gowland, Ambassador of Argentina and Dean of GRULAC, opened the Brisbane Annual Dinner, highlighting the need for deeper regional cooperation. We thank Prof. Deborah Terry AC, Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of Queensland, for her welcome remarks, and Prof. Doug Aitken for his inspiring address on the power of partnerships.
We would like to sincerely thank our sponsors and partners: The University of Queensland (Gold), LATAM Airlines (Champion Partner) and MPOWER by Ecuapremium Group (Bronze) for their ongoing support of ALABC.
