Letter from the Chief Executive Officer

Dear members, associates and friends of ALABC,

I would like to acknowledge and thank our members, partners and supporters who have made September another knock out month which kicked off with our sold-out Brisbane Gala Dinner and UQ Latin American Colloquium. We are grateful for the participation and sponsorship of Trade and Investment Queensland and patron member, the University of Queensland in championing the amazing opportunities for engagement and growth with Latin America and their continued support of ALABC. I would also like to thank you, our members and friends, who attended the Brisbane dinner, read an article, joined a discussion, sought assistance with something or just called for a chat.

ALABC would like to congratulate member Noja Power, who were awarded the prestigious Premier’s Queensland Exporter of the Year Award and award for Sustainability and Green Economy. What an achievement. It was exciting to see so many of this year’s finalist with a presence in Latin America!

October will see our participation in the International Mining and Resources Conference IMARC, Sydney. ALABC is pleased to announce that it will be supporting several inbound delegations from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Peru and representatives from Brazil and Mexico. We’ll be kicking off the week with a delegates’ brunch, our Latin American Gala on Tuesday and panel discussion lead by ALABC Director Paola Lasso on Thursday. If any of our members and associates would like to meet with the delegates, please get in touch and we will connect you.

We have a couple of sponsorship opportunities still available for the dinner and tickets are available to purchase now.

To our members - If you haven’t completed the member survey emailed to you, please take a moment to share your insights. Your input helps us ensure we are meeting the needs of our members and contribute to the ongoing success of ALABC.

I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter – the presentation on ‘Drugs and insecticides from venomous animals’ is fascinating!

Hasta pronto!

Brazil and Chile Lead Latin America’s Green Energy Revolution

While Latin America and the Caribbean have shown the slowest growth in terms of energy transition in the last decade, Brazil and Chile performed extremely well, ranking in the top 20 performers worldwide, according to the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Fostering Effective Energy Transition Report.

Both Latin American countries now have a diverse energy mix, with renewable sources contributing significantly to their energy demand. Further growth is expected to be seen in the coming years as both countries continue to develop their renewable energy capacity, with Brazil focusing on a gradual shift away from oil and gas production and Chile supporting the cleantech industry through lithium production.
