Carbon Energy specialises in the production of synthesis gas (syngas) using our proprietary technology keyseam®. We transform otherwise stranded coal resources into syngas underground for the production of high value fuels with lower emissions to meet the increasing global demand for new, low cost, alternative energy sources.

keyseam® produces a consistent flow of high quality gas which is critical for downstream processes such as the production of electricity, synthetic natural gas and chemical feedstock. We maximise resource efficiency by extracting up to 20 times more energy from the same resource when compared to coal seam gas production and require much lower capital expenditure than surface coal gasification facilities.

The technology has been developed following 10 years of research and testing by Australia’s premier research agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Our advanced geological modelling, site selection methodology and design tools are critical to the success of every project.

We have built a portfolio of coal assets across the globe and have partnered with leading organisations in Australia, South America, the United States of America and Europe to deliver commercial scale projects in lucrative markets.
