Government of WA Department of State Development
The Department of State Development is the Western Australian Government’s lead agency to promote, coordinate and facilitate responsible development across Western Australia. The Department works to achieve growth for Western Australia through building strategic infrastructure and by leading and facilitating government and industry projects that create jobs and underpin Western Australia’s long term development.
The Department of State Development works closely with industry, communities and government agencies to:
- Develop and coordinate significant State initiatives;
- Facilitate and lead the coordination of major private sector resource and industry projects;
- Enable the development of strategic industrial lands and infrastructure;
- Attract investment to Western Australia and assist the development of export markets; and
- Develop a business and regulatory environment that supports the State’s economic growth.
As Western Australia prepares for future growth, international investment in our resources sector and related infrastructure is increasingly significant in enabling the development of our natural assets and newly developing resources including rare earths, lithium and uranium.
Western Australia’s skills and technology also play a part in resources development around the world, with Perth a major centre for petroleum and sub-sea exploration and growing numbers of international companies choosing Perth as the base for their operations.
Beyond resources there are many other areas of business, which are being developed to our mutual benefit including fine food and wine, building and construction, mining technology services, health, agriculture and biotechnology.
Recognising the importance of international trade to the State’s development, the Western Australian Government operates ten trade and investment offices in the State’s key export and investment regions: London; South Korea; Japan; China; Middle East; Malaysia; Indonesia; and India.
As well as promoting Western Australia and supporting major contract negotiations, the offices help build links between Western Australian and international businesses and coordinate ministerial and industry trade missions, exhibitions and company visits to and from Western Australia.
