Of all facets of Australian-Latin American relations, it is perhaps mining which is emerging as the sector of strongest partnerships. Latin America is home to large orebodies, strong mining cultures and governments which offer stable and attractive investment environments, yet it still holds vast, untapped potential. As a result Latin America has become a preferred destination for the Australia’s resources sector – the region has become a beacon to Australian explorers, miners, developers and service companies. The Australian industry is known the world over for its intrepid spirit, strong government relations and world’s best practice in corporate social responsibility.

Company numbers on the ground have grown from less than 20 just three years ago, to over 70 ASX-listed companies today. Companies are mining and exploring for a wide range of commodities from gold, to iron ore, copper, coal, potash and uranium.

Given the new momentum in Australian Latin American relations, and the rapid growth of engagement in the mining sector, Paydirt Media has launched Latin America Downunder, a two-day event to be held at the Sheraton on the Park, Sydney on 22-23 May 2012. Paydirt believes time is right to launch specialist mining conference in Australia which focuses exclusively on Latin America.
