Griffith University

In 1971 Griffith was created to be a new kind of university – one that offered new degrees in progressive fields. Today, we’ve grown to become a comprehensive university, teaching across 10 study areas at five campuses in South-East Queensland. Griffith students enjoy a world-class university and graduate with the knowledge, skills and networks needed to launch a global career.
In 1971, Griffith was created to be a new kind of university – one that offered new degrees in progressive fields such as Asian Studies and Environmental Science. At the time, these study areas were revolutionary and today, they’re more important than ever. Created in a time of social upheaval, our founders knew that the world would constantly change and that universities needed to equip their students with the skills to change with it. So when we officially opened our doors in 1975, we attracted a new breed of students and staff who wanted to face new challenges and opportunities head on.

Today, we’ve grown into a comprehensive university, teaching across five campuses in South-East Queensland and in all study areas. But we’ve never lost sight of our progressive beginnings. Everything we do – from education to research to community involvement – is designed to meet the new world that our students, graduates and communities will encounter. Griffith has a proud history of engagement with the Latin American region.

In 2012 Griffith received the Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC) Excellence Award, reflecting our strategy, growth, innovation and commitment to the region. The Award recognised our collaboration on projects important to the region including developing environmental management strategies for sustainable living and wastewater management. Griffith has fast become a popular destination for Latin American students. Our academic and English language pathways through Queensland Institute of Business Technology (QIBT) and Griffith English Language Institute (GELI) allow students to easily transition into their chosen Griffith degree program. The Griffith University Latin American Club (GULAC) also has an active presence on campus with over 700 members across our five campuses. In 2013, GULAC held the first Latin American Week to embrace and show the Latin American culture to the wider Griffith community. Over 9,000 international students are already experiencing an amazing cultural and lifestyle experience like no other at Griffith University.
