The University of Western Australia

The University of Western Australia (UWA) ranks in the top 100 universities worldwide and is internationally recognised for its strong commitment to excellence in teaching, learning and research.

UWA was Western Australia’s first university and celebrated its Centenary in 2013.  Now with over 25,000 students enrolled across nine faculties, it offers a wide range of exciting and comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs. UWA’s courses are designed to prepare graduates for the challenges of a changing world by honing communication and critical thinking skills and promoting a broad, global perspective. As it works towards steering Western Australia into a dynamic technology and innovation economy, the University is attracting the world’s brightest through scholarships and with investment in research, teaching and infrastructure.

The 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) ranked UWA 91st in the world and; 26th in life sciences (the highest in Australia); in the top 75 for medical research and in the top 100 for Chemistry.  The 2014 Good Universities Guide gave UWA five-star ratings for student demand, graduate outcomes, graduate starting salaries, getting a full-time job, research intensivity and research grants.

A dynamic and progressive university, UWA is a member of the prestigious Group of Eight partnership of leading research-intensive Australian universities, and of the international Matariki Network of Universities, which pride themselves on the quality of the student experience. UWA is one of only two Australian universities to belong to the Worldwide Universities Network, a partnership of 18 research-led universities from Europe, North America, North Asia and Australia.

Situated on the Swan River five kilometres from the centre of Perth, UWA is acclaimed for its national-heritage listed grounds and vibrant social and sporting life, as well as its contribution to the community and Perth cultural scene, being the founder of the Perth International Arts Festival (the oldest festival of its kind in the southern hemisphere).

Now turning it’s attention to its next century, UWA has set its sights on ambitious intiatiatives that will revolutionise how it educates, researches and engages with its communities.  With a long-term aim of being counted among the top 50 universities in the world by 2050, UWA continues to play a vital role in scholarship and discovery of global significance.
