The 2012 ALABC Perth Annual Dinner is the first of four annual dinners, which are also held in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Each dinner is designed to bring together ALABC members and guests from a wide variety of industries and Australian and Latin American Government Officials, who have interest in doing business in Latin America and in Australia’s overall relationship with the region.
This year the Business Council is delighted to announce that the Guest of Honour and Key Note Speaker of this year's Perth event will be The Hon Peter Beattie, Resources Sector Supplier Envoy.
Peter Beattie was Premier of Queensland from 1998 to 2007 as well as Minister for Trade for most of that time. From 2008 to 2010 he was Queensland's Trade and Investment Commissioner to the Americas based in Los Angeles. In June 2010 he took up a part-time role as adviser and guest lecturer on global economic development strategies at Clemson University, South Carolina.
He is Director of the Medical Research Commercialisation Fund, Ambassador for Life Sciences Queensland and joint adjunct professor at the University of Queensland's Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology and Institute for Molecular Bioscience. He is also the independent chairman of the National Association of Cinema Owners Australasia.
As the inaugural Resources Sector Supplier Envoy, Mr Beattie is taking a leadership role in the Australian Government's Buy Australian at Home and Abroad initiative by strengthening Australian industry participation in major resources projects.
