Our annual dinners have been held for many years and have firmly established themselves as outstanding opportunities for networking with key decisions makers involved in the Australia-Latin America relationship,, engaging with political and business leaders alike. They regularly attract capacity audiences and are and excellent opportunities for sponsors to profile themselves and to forge closer relationships with important stakeholders.

Claudia Monreal, President of Women in Mining (Chile)

Claudia Monreal is a mining engineer specialised in geostatistics.
She has led geological modelling on mine deposits in Australia, Indonesia, South America, Canada and Chile.
Claudia founded Women in Mining Chile, driven by the loneliness of
working without any female colleagues. She notes that less than 8% of the workforce in Chile’s mining industry is female, and fewer than 3% of mining engineers. “Very occasionally I get to share a professional table with a woman in
mining, and I want to change that,” she says. “I want to run into women VPs often, I want to go to gender balanced mining conferences, and I want mining to hire the very best people, not the very best men.”
For Claudia, moving to Australia for a mining engineering role was a life-changing event: “For the first time, I realised I was a woman and nobody noticed,” she says. Back in Chile, Claudia is working to change the industry and the culture for her two daughters. “I don’t want them to live in a world where it is tougher to
be a professional woman”
